Eurotrip Day 10 - I pulled a Simon. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STUPID!!!!

It was our last full day on Paris and we hadn't gotten any souvenirs or bought anything. Our goal for today was to buy something in Paris.

Before we headed out to the shopping district of Paris, I wanted to do something I didn't get to do on a previous day, Climb the Notre Dame Towers. We got a student fee so I thought it would have been worth it. It would have also been a good morning exercise for some of us. While we were waiting out side, Steve couldn't stop asking why there were gargoyles all over the church. He thought gargoyles were evil and didn't understand why they would be used on a church.

The day was rainy so we didn't stand on the top for too long, we kept looking for shelter making sure that our cameras wouldn't get wet. Steve located the huge church bell in one of the towers and took a few funny poses with it. These pictures of course will be accessible later on. The bell was the size of van I would say or atleast an SUV. While I was in the church bell tower, I wondered what would happen if we were still in there when the bell started going off. I couldn't imagine what would happen to my ears. If anything, I would say that I would go deaf. We left the tower before 11am to avoid any problems.

The only place we knew about for shopping was the same place Atsushi went on his last day. There was no real large mall of any sort. There were more department stores than anything. While Steve was looking for something for Theresa, Roger and I were just browsing. I had no real idea what I wanted and nothing in the shopping district seemed like souvenirs. The mini metal Eiffel towers were nice but I wouldn't be able to fit them in my back pack, unless I was thinking of giving a bent tower to someone =b. Roger eventually got fed up with walking around and just 'browsing' so he went home. Steve and I continued our search for things to buy. Our journey brought us to H&M. There I found a pair of shorts and nice linen shirt for the summer. They were 30 euros in total. Steve also got shorts and another shirt that I forget. I put my newly bought clothes into my bag so I didn't have to carry them.

The entire shopping area had a lot of clothing stores. The department stores here were very large. In fact, Department stores were invented in France. There even seemed to be a stores specifically for people older than 40 years old because the clothing seemed to be so NOT in style and wasn't a bit hip. We circled around the same areas several times searching for a specific store that Steve was interested in. We walked so much that it got to the point that we were getting the Museum foot syndrome (just walking too much with out rest). And with the crappy rainy weather, our shoes and socks were getting wet. Shopping is definitely fun, but not when you are wet.

Dinner was around 1.5 hours away (it was 4:30pm) and we weren't interested in going to buy other things mainly because our back packs were already really really full. I told Steve that we should try some French Cuisine and recommended Moules et Frites (Mussells and Fries). My Dad introduced me to a French restaurant in Vancouver that had the same dish that was really relaly good and I thought that it would be great to try it locally while I was in Paris. But since our stomachs weren't really that empty yet, we went to a starbucks and sat down talking about random things. Halfway through our conversations, Steve asked for the Tourist book. We did some extra planning during our wait.

We left at 6:00pm sharp and went to the closest restaurant that was serving Moules et Frites. We found a restaurant that had the best service I have seen in Paris. The person was really nice and was very understanding. The dinner was fantastic and I can say that it tastes much better in Paris. They seem to use more spices on the Mussells. The sauces was great too, it reminded me of the one in Vancouver.

Just 20 minutes after we left the restaurant, we had arrived back at the hostel. I was about the show Roger what I had bought but as I opened my bag, I noticed an emptiness that I had not expected. Something was missing, MY BAG OF CLOTHES!!!! I panicked and started thinking of where it could be. It narrowed down to Starbucks. Steve and I rushed all the way back to the Starbucks but when we arrived, the mini mall, which the starbucks was in, was closed. So I had no idea if anyone had picked it up or Starbucks found it. In Canada, I would have expected them to pick it up, but in Paris, I would have thought someone else just took it and no one cared. All was lost and it was because I was such a BIG HEADED SHRIMP. I was soooooo pissed, within 1 day, I lost 30 euros. I am soooo stupid!!! STUPID!!!! Steve tried to comfort me and told me that it wasn't like losing something more important. He was right, the absolute worse in terms of something to lose was my camera and pictures. Still, I am very pissed about losing that amoung of money to my forgetfulness.

Nothing really happened that day other than me being stupid. I don't even think we went out for beer because we had to get up early for the train the next day. We heard that they had special blue lights at the Eiffel tower, but we had to refuse. CRAP! I am still pissed about losing 30 euros ($45 CAD equivalent).
